Research

Carrying out thorough research is extremely important before attending an interview.

Before meeting with your potential employer ensure you have the following information at your finger tips:-

  • What is the company's annual turnover?
  • Who are their major competitors?
  • What is their market place?
  • What reputation does the company have?
  • What area do they operate in?

Preparation

Ensure you have prepared and thought about the following:

  • Find out the format of the interview whether it is likely to be informal, formal or a panel interview.
  • Make sure you have planned your route to the interview, printed off any necessary maps and address details and have the information of who you are meeting and at what time.
  • Print off a copy of your CV to take with you along with copies of any relevant certificates/qualifications.
  • Prepare a list of questions and have a think about what type of questions you are likely to be asked.

The Interview

  • Wear a suit unless advised otherwise
  • Aim to arrive to your interview at least 10 minutes early
  • Make sure you are polite to everyone you come into contact with from the receptionist to the MD, you never know who may have an influence in the final decision.
  • Relax and answer the questions honestly giving examples where necessary, ensure to emphasis any particular achievements.
  • Be concise with your answers avoid talking too much!
  • At the end of the interview make sure you ask at least 3-4 questions
  • Try to get some commitment before leaving the interview as to when you may hear something and how many other people they are meeting.
